  • Hispanic Heritage Month - Sept 15 - Oct 15

Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. While we celebrate Hispanic and Latino communites beyond this month, from September 15 to October 15 we give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.

Hispanic Heritage Month provides an additional opportunity to explore the incredible impact Latinas and Latinos have had on the United States for generations. The Latino presence in America spans centuries, predating Spain’s colonization of what is now part of the United States, and they have been an integral part of shaping our nation since the Revolutionary War. Through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Treaty of Paris that followed the Mexican-American and Spanish-American wars, the United States gained territories in the Southwest and Puerto Rico. This incorporated the people of this area into the United States and further expanded the presence of Hispanic Americans.

  • DOE Devices

    Dear Families,

As we approach the end of the academic year, students must return any NYCPS issued educational technology devices (iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, etc.) to PS 295 The Studio School of Arts and Culture (15K295).
We will collect devices and all supporting accessories including keyboards, cases, power cords, etc. that were distributed when you received the device at the beginning of this school year.

Collecting these devices will allow us to assess device condition, address any necessary repairs and maintenance, update device software and operating systems, and prepare for distribution at the start of the new school year.
It is important to note that as per NYCPS policy, when a student transfers schools, including transferring from elementary to middle/intermediate school, transferring from middle/intermediate to high school, or if a student is discharged from the New York City Public Schools at any grade level, the device must be returned to the school the student is currently attending.

We want to assure you that if a student lacks a personal device at home and needs a school-issued device to complete their schoolwork, one will be assigned from the new school they attend.

If your child needs a device for Summer Rising, a device may be requested by emailing, Interim Acting Principal, Jean Marie McInerney (JMcinereny@schools.nyc.gov )

If you have any questions, please contact the parent coordinator or Interim Acting Principal McInerney.

For more information on devices, click here:  NYCPS Loaned Devices

     Respectfully,
    Jean Marie McInerney
    Interim Acting Principal

  • Interim Acting Principal - Jean Marie McInerney

    June 12, 2024

    Dear PS 295 Community,

I am writing to you today, with great enthusiasm, to introduce myself as the new Interim Acting Principal of PS 295 The Studio School of Arts and Culture. I am honored to join a community whose mission is to: “nurture proactive, joyful, and courageous learners, who regard mistakes as learning opportunities while pursuing their talents, solving problems, and developing self-control”. I look forward to meeting you all tomorrow, Thursday, June 13.

District 15 has been my home for seven years. With over sixteen years of experience in education, and passion for creating inclusive learning environments that foster learning, I am dedicated to supporting the mission and vision of the PS 295 community. I am excited to contribute my skills and knowledge to enhancing the student and parent educational experiences. My focus will be on creating an inclusive environment that is relevant and responsive to all cultures and continuing the high academic expectations of PS 295.

I believe in open communication and collaboration between educators, students, and parents. As a working parent of two young girls, with diverse needs, I know the importance of the home school connection and the struggles many parents are facing. I look forward to working as a community to ensure students are growing academically, socially, and emotionally; and that community members feel supported.

In my role, I will be working closely with the district, staff, parents, and students to ensure the diverse needs of our community are met. I believe that together we can create an environment where our students are thriving academically and socially. My door is open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to reach out to me at, JMcinerney@schools.nyc.gov, with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have.

Thank you for this amazing opportunity. I look forward to meeting you all tomorrow with an open mind and open heart.

Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) High School Summer Program

Get ready for summer sports! This summer, NYC high school students can enjoy free athletic training, fitness and conditioning, sports-specific skill development, and recreation activities at select high school sites across the five boroughs. The Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) High School Summer Sports, Fitness, and Recreation program will run daily Monday to Thursday from 3:00– 6:00 p.m., beginning July 10 and ending on August 13. To provide students choice of sports/activities throughout the summer, there will be two sessions:
    Session 1: Wednesday, July 10 – Thursday, July 25
    Session 2: Monday, July 29 – Tuesday, August 13
This program is open to all NYC students entering grades 9–12 in the fall of 2024. Students do not need to attend school at their chosen school site during the regular school year to participate in a PSAL summer program at that site. Students can find program details and register for the summer 2024 program at psal.org/events-and-standings/summer.aspx beginning June 3.

Space is limited at the individual sites. Please select only one site and one program for a given SESSION. Once registration has been submitted, the parent or guardian listed will be notified via email if the student is approved for the site and program selected. In the event that the chosen site and program are at capacity, students are encouraged to register for another site/program.

Texts include links to youth employment opportunities, scholarship information, access to workshops, and deadline reminders. For additional support, College and Career Advising can also connect students with access to free, one-on-one virtual meetings with expert advisors after school and on weekends. Students graduating in 2024 can use College and Career Advising Texts to connect with their College and Career Bridge Coach, a current college student trained to help recent graduates navigate the transition between high school and the next stages in their college and career pathways. Learn more at schools.nyc.gov/choosing-the-right-path.

    Summer Reading

Reading is like any skill: it takes practice! Over the summer, reading together can help your child continue to develop their literacy skills and avoid any learning loss that might occur over their time outside of the classroom.
Our Summer Reading Guide—available online at schools.nyc.gov/LiteracyResources—is a great first step on your family’s next reading adventure. It contains tips for reading at home, recommended titles for students in all grade levels, resources where you can find books, and more. In addition to the guide, our Literacy Resources webpage also features at-home activities and other recommended reading lists that will help foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.
This summer, we also encourage you to use our Citywide Digital Library, Sora. Sora is the quickest and easiest way for NYC students to access thousands of e-books and audiobooks in multiple languages. You can log in to Sora using your NYC Public School credentials at soraapp.com/library/nycschools

  • Safer Access System

    May 10, 2024

    Dear Families,

We have some important news to share regarding the safety measures at our school. In line with our
commitment to enhance security practices, all NYC Public Schools will have a Safer Access system installed
during the 2023-25 school years. The Safer Access system is designed to strengthen our existing safety and
security practices as part of the overall visitor protocols at our school.

    What is Safer Access?

The primary objective of the Safer Access system is to ensure that all doors remain locked outside of the
morning-entry and afternoon-dismissal periods. When school doors are locked, visitors wishing to gain
access to the building will ring the intercom at the main entrance door (or ADA-accessibility entrance if
applicable) and identify themselves before access is granted into the school building. Safer Access allows our
dedicated staff assigned to the main desk (School Safety Agents and/or school staff) to be able to see and
speak with visitors before granting them access inside. Please be assured that all visitors to our school will
continue to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and respect while awaiting entry into our building.
In addition to enhancing safety, this system allows for easy access for first responders during an emergency.
Once our Safer Access system is installed and operational, our school staff (including School Safety Agents)
and students will receive training on using the system as well as how to support all visitors in accordance
    with our policy.

We believe Safer Access will greatly contribute to maintaining a secure learning environment for our
    students and staff.

We look forward to the NYC Public Schools Safer Access system creating a safer environment for everyone.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support in keeping
    our school community safe.

    Warm regards,
    Valerie Vanderpuije
    Principal, P.S. 295

  • Crossing Guard Shortage City Wide

    Dear Friends,

Currently, there is shortage of School Crossing Guards citywide, and due to this shortage many of our crossing post are left unmanned
placing the safety of our students and their families in a danger while traveling to and from school. In an effort to help alleviate this issue
The NYPD is asking you to help the city recruit SCGs. Please circulate this information to your friends and family.
